Classic AOR band Magnum has already rocked for 30 years. With their latest album they show that they're still going strong... Brand New Morning was "most enjoyable experience" according to Tony Clarkin (guitarist/songwriter/producer). During its lifespan, Magnum has had many line-up changes... The current line-up consists of guitarist Tony Clarkin (Hard Rain), vocalist Bob Catley (Hard Rain, Bob Catley), keyboardist Mark Stanway (Rainmaker, Little Acre, M3 Classic Whitesnake), drummer Harry James (ex-Thunder) and bassist Al Barrow (Bob Catley, The Jelly Man Projects).

Surprisingly the material on this album was more diverse than I expected — Magnum really has tried to modernize their songs (there were even some progressive elements such as time signature changes). However, the quality of songs varies quite a lot... some songs were good, but also weaker 'fill' songs had been included. Fortunately the album improves towards the end (there were some pleasant surprises).

Sounds are somewhat old-fashioned (retro), but otherwise the production is quite good. The mastering has been done well and the mix ain't too bad either. However, this record would benefit from some improvement regarding the mixing.

Fans of Magnum & AOR might find this release quite interesting, but I recommend listening before buying. This album had its good moments, but the occasional mediocre songs degraded the rating.
