  • Geddy Lee Talks Prog -

Rush frontman Geddy Lee has been interviewed for an upcoming issue of Terrorizer magazine, and he had some thoughts on the nature of Rush's music, the meaning of the term "progressive rock," and...Radiohead.

Says Lee, "You don't have to sound a particular way to be a progressive rock band, and that's my view on it. We are a hard rock band, we are a progressive rock band, but our roots are in hard rock more than they are in ELP or something like that. It's different strokes for different folks. Radiohead are a kind of progressive alt band I guess, but the key is that they're trying to bring other things into their music, and that's what a progressive band does, tries to expand what they are by adding other influences without too much prerequisite."

Rush's next studio album, Clockwork Angels, will be available everywhere June 12; you can pre-order it now, on CD or deluxe double vinyl, at the Roadrunner webstore! (European fans click here.) Rush tour dates have also been announced.

  • Mikael Åkerfeldt Addresses The Fans -

Anyone who's seen Opeth live knows that frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt is a master of absurdist between-song banter. And in the video above, that's the side of him that's showcased, as some crazy fan edited together all his stage commentary from the band's recent performance in Atlanta on the Heritage Hunter tour with Mastodon and Ghost. Enjoy!

Opeth's latest album, Heritage, is available now in the Roadrunner webstore.

  • Jordan Rudess, Guest Keyboardist -

The band Affector will release its debut album, Harmagedon, on Tuesday (not on Roadrunner), and the title track - which is 13 minutes long, by the way - features a guest keyboard solo from Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater! The song's been posted online, so check it out now!

  • Mikael Åkerfeldt's Favorite Things -

Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt was interviewed by Spin magazine about his favorite things, and some of the answers may surprise even longtime fans!

His favorite place to play? Santiago, Chile: "There are a lot of people coming out and they're fucking crazy. They're so loud. And it kind of detaches you from your role as a musician. You don't really think about what you're playing because you're enjoying the whole thing. The crowds are always good. Most of the night I'm usually just listening to how we're doing as a band as opposed to listening to how the crowd is reacting. But in Santiago it's just crazy."

His favorite food? Italian: "I could eat Italian food every day. In Italy, you can go into pretty much every restaurant and it's going to be decent. When we're on tour — because we're always visiting these countries on tour and I never go on holiday — we're connoisseurs when it comes to food. We're not gonna run into McDonald's, you know?"

His favorite way to unwind at home? Watching his fish: "One, the direct translation would be a 'fire eel.' I asked my daughters to name it but they just call it the eel. I have another big fish — I don't know what they call it in English but it's a big fucking fish that sits on the bottom just hanging out. I was sold when I bought it because I could eat it. When it's too dull to watch, I might just fry it up!"

He also says he's a huge ABBA fan, but honestly, we're pretty sure they revoke your Swedish citizenship if you don't love ABBA. Anyway, read the whole thing!

Opeth's latest album, Heritage, is available now in the Roadrunner webstore.

  • Britney is back - and so are the brickbats -

Britney Spears performs on ABC's LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Britney Spears hasn't even taken her seat as the new judge of "The X Factor," but the pop icon is already getting a lesson in the media glare of live, talent show television.
