King's X drummer Jerry Gaskill decided to release a solo album titled as 'Come Somewhere'. Stylistically it's quite ordinary rock album with few metal parts. Mostly it's a basic rock album with some (quite a few) slow acoustic sections. I must admit that I was surprised by how different the material on this album was from King's X songs. "This record was supposed to sound different in a drastic way than everything else that comes from King’s X. It had to be that way, because I think my way of writing songs clearly differs from my long-time contribution with King’s X", explains Gaskill. This album proves that Jerry Gaskill is not only a drummer but also accomplished guitarist, pianist, singer and songwriter. Songs are occasionally diverse, although they are monotonous to a certain degree. The songs have their good parts, but there are also some less successful compositions. Most of the songs are acoustic (or at least they start with acoustic guitar). Production on this album is very good... except for a few minor details (nothing too grave, though). This album favourably impressed me, but I wouldn't recommend it straight to King's X fans... I'm not the biggest fan of King's X, so therefore I liked this album (it was different from King's X stuff). So be sure to listen before buying... If you never liked King's X, don't be afraid to check out Jerry Gaskill (you might like his solo work). Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (31.08.2004) « back
