The story of Chain is quite interesting. The band was formed already in 1994 by the keyboardist Stephan Kernbach (at the time Thorsten and Christian were only 15 years old). The band rehearsed for a year and wrote a lot of material, but they couldn't find a singer, so they split up after a year of liaison. Fortunately after 8 years since their formation, Henning found and listened to their old rehearsal tape... He was amazed that the themes worked and he still could remember all the notes. So he worked throughout the year 2002 on "RECONSTRUCT". In December he finally found the singer, Matt Cash, to complete the line-up. The concept of this album album is evolution. Reconstruct contains 10 songs weaved together by seven 'Earthscapes' (over 79 minutes of music). Earthscapes are different kinds of interludes resembling, among others, ambient music and/or a filmscore. Some of them are very apposite while others may be a little less successful. The music, however, is diverse (to some extent) and includes driving rhythms, strong vocal lines and harmonies, varying themes, complex arrangements and heavy guitars... After I had listened to Frameshift's 'Unweaving the Rainbow', I knew Chain would be good (afterall, Henning Pauly composed the music for Frameshift). Production on this album is top-class, there's not much to complain. This album doesn't offer much new to the genre, but it still proves to be a good album... Some of the ideas are refreshing, and I must admit that the realization of this album has been done well. So what are you waiting for, check out the samples at ProgRock Records' website.
