Irish instrumental four-piece, Parhelia, play modern atmospheric post-rock in the vein of Porcupine Tree and Anathema. For the most part, their compositions are well-crafted and enjoyable to listen to. The songs are founded on soothing melodies, though at times more edgy guitar riffs are brought into play. While the material is rather good, every now and then less fortuitous sections break the atmosphere. Production on this record has been handled pretty well, and overall First Light is laudable debut release.
