Rock Star Supernova is a new group resulting from a CBS reality show - Rock Star: Supernova. This reality show is like an American Idol for rockers, and its second season winner Lukas Rossi got to be the frontman of a group carrying the same name as the show (whilst the band was originally simply known as Supernova). As you can see from the line-up, Rossi has gotten to work with fairly known musicians ranging from former Metallica, Guns n' Roses and Mötley Crüe members, but this isn't necessarily a good thing.

The music of Rock Star Supernova is founded on grunge and garage rock. The songs are occasionally quite good, though they aren't very memorable. Nevertheless, there are few exceptionally strong hooks. In addition, the production is a bit of a letdown, since the sounds are fairly compressed and the recordings even clip at times. Since Rossi is a talented singer, I can't help but wonder if he'd be better off without the help of famous musicians. After all, now he has to sing songs written by others, and contractually forced bands usually don't fare too well. Perhaps the name is omen, and there won't even be a second album from this super group. Regardless, it'll be interesting to follow how far Lukas Rossi will go in the rock scene.
