Pekka Heino (Brother Firetribe) seems to have a soft spot for melodic adult oriented rock of the eighties... he couldn't settle with one group playing in this style, instead he had to be in two. Earlier this year Brother Firetribe released their debut album, and now Leverage does the same with the release of "Tides". The music is quite similar to that of Brother Firetribe's, but there are some slight differences. Surprisingly there's even traces of melodic metal group KenZiner in Leverage's compositions. Just listen for the ripoff riff on Twilight Symphony. While Tides has its moments of grandeur, there's one big drawback on this record - the songs remain a tad bland for the most part, and the album doesn't manage to enthrall its listener. However, the production on this record has been handled well. Fans of melodic AOR might like this record, but one should keep in mind that Tides doesn't have much new to offer to the genre. I, for one, would have liked to see this group having some leverage in comparison to other groups on the scene - currently the band doesn't live up to their name.
