English trio Muse have finished their fourth album Black Holes and Revelations, a record offering adventurous blend of electronic pop and rock music. The group once known as Rocket Baby Dolls has been fairly fortuitous so far, but is this about to change? Probably not, though from my standpoint their latest work is little bit a letdown. The quality of material on Black Holes and Revelations is somewhat steady, though the album definitely has its highs and lows. At times one can hear rather good ideas, but otherwise the songs set sails on safe waters. I, for one, would have liked to hear a bit more gripping and surprising compositions instead of the tepidness found on this record. On a sidenote, the best ideas have been borrowed from other acts, though they've been skilfully adapted to suit Muse's music. This record has been produced quite well. The sounds are apt and atmospheric, and hence it's a shame music falls a bit short of the productional quality. While Muse's Black Holes and Revelations has its moments and probably appeals to most fans of the group, I still suggest giving it a brief listen prior to purchasing.
