It's been nine years since Ajalon's debut album "Light at the End of the Tunnel" was released. This group was originally discovered by no other than Rick Wakeman of Yes-fame. Ajalon plays religiously-themed upbeat progressive rock much in the vein of Neal Morse. Music isn't the only confluence of Ajalon and Neal Morse band, since both of them feature the same talented multi-instrumentalist Randy George. In addition, Neal Morse has contributed vocals to the title track of this record. On the whole, Ajalon's "On the Threshold of Eternity" is a great comeback album. It contains evocative lyrics, grand compositions that are both epic and delicate at times. The overall quality of material on this record is rather good... it's a joy to listen to, though at times the material is slightly too retro to my liking. Nonetheless, the way in which Ajalon blends modern and classic progressive rock is quite breathtaking. On the Threshold of Eternity snatches you into its enticing world of wittiness, despair, derision, hope, survival and love. Production-wise this album has been carried out really well... the sounds are fairly apt, though the drums sound a bit too retroesque. Regardless, the production is otherwise really good. In case you have a soft spot for classic progrock, be sure to give Ajalon a listen. And in case you're wondering what Ajalon means, it can be found in the Bible (the Book of Joshua, chapter 10 and verse 12). Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (May 22nd, 2006) « back
