Moonsafari's debut album A Doorway to Summer surprised me quite favourably when I received it last year. The songs on it are delightfully captivating, and it's no secret that this record has seen quite a few spins before I finally wrote this review. Stylistically the music on A Doorway to Summer is alluring upbeat progressive rock.

A Doorway to Summer is rather apt title for this album, since listening really gets one's spirit up high, and prepares one's mindset for the summer. Both lead vocalists Sandström and Åkesson handle their parts well, and have good voices. Everything on this record has been realized very professionally, and actually there's nothing to point my finger at - except some slight production errors and fruitless proggimmickry.

The production on this album is really good for the most part. The sounds are warm yet precise, and the album has been mastered level-headedly. Unfortunately, some unfortunate pops occurred on "A Sun of Your Own" (other recordings are clean, though). Overall, Moonsafari's debut is a great progrock album, which is definitely worth checking out for all the fans of mellow upbeat prog.
