Here's a band that has gathered quite a loyal fan following during its career - I reckon everyone who listens to Gothic Rock has heard of Type O Negative... and it's about time they release a live DVD. There's quite a lot of extra footage in addition to the concert, and that's what makes this DVD worth checking out for all O- fans. For example, it's possible to watch the gig with commentary and there's an interview with Juliya (formerly of Fuse TV), biographies of each member as well as a photo gallery. In addition, there's plenty of backstage footage to make any TON fan drool after. However, one should keep in mind the group's dark sense of humour...

So I won't comment about the excessive gayness that can be found on the xtras of this DVD. Instead I'll concentrate on giving a brief overall description of Symphony for the Devil. This live DVD contains a concert shot at the Bizarre Festival '99 in Germany. Every now and then the concert is paused to show some backstage footage, which is actually rather amusing. Nonetheless, it would have been great to also have the option to view only the concert.

It's a shame the production of this DVD doesn't quite compare with the quality of music. The mixing could have been better - the sounds got distorted frequently (the levels were simply too loud). On the other hand, the picture quality is fairly good, and if one turns down the volume the experience becomes really enjoyable. It's also worth noting, one can enjoy the gig in 5.1 surround sound as well. All in all, this DVD is a must buy for the fans despite of its few frailties. A great purchase while waiting for the new Type O Negative album.
