I have to admit I hadn't heard of Prospero's Daughter prior to receiving their album "The Four Year Experiment". After giving the album its first listen, I had the problem of starting to write anything... for some reason no words came (much to my surprise). So over the last three months I've been listening to this album on and off, and I've really liked what I have heard... I just haven't got 'round summing my thoughts of it, well not until now. The band plays folk rock much in the vein of Bruce Springsteen and the like. The group's vocalist, Julien LeVély has a good voice, which suits the genre well. The songs are well structured, and the whole album is a joy to listen. For the most part, emotional guitar leads fill the background while the vocals still take most of your attention. Production on this album is quite good, although the sounds still could be better. Primarily as a guitarist myself, I noticed the guitar tone's lack of fullness. Nonetheless, the sounds are still rather apt, and they actually build a pleasant, though somewhat melancholic soundscape. I strongly recommend "The Four Year Experiment" to every folk rock listener.
