A blend of progressive rock and symphonic musical is the styling of Pallas, a Scottish prog rock quintet. Originally this group emerged in 1981, but a hiatus was soon called in 1986. Fortunately enough, Pallas reformed in 1999 and began to continue composing. The latest result of their hard work is "The Dreams of Men" - an album delving into the dreams of mankind. One of the most distinctive features of Pallas' music is its variety of moods... classical passages along with folk elements set the mood while other instrumentations offer nice twists every now and then. What especially makes Pallas appealing is their "down to earth" style of composing (the prog gimmickry doesn't take up too much space). On top of all, their song structures are witty. The listening experience remains intriguing despite of some familiar melodies. In addition, Pallas has combined modern elements with the old school prog of the 80s in a rather successful way, thus making the music slightly fresh as well. The production of this record suits the music well, as it accents the dramatic changes taking place on the sonic scene.
