Shadowland is the fifth album of Lee Z, and what a good album it is... the title track has the honour of being the album opener, and succeeds at it fairly well. Especially in the beginning of the album, Dream Theater-rip offs are scattered, but it doesn't ruin the listening experience in any way as there are plenty of original material included as well. Although Peter Pauliks' voice isn't among the best of the genre, it suits the music surprisingly well. Musically Lee Z's Shadowland is fairly traditional progressive metal album. There are both ballads as well as heavier compositions included, and in both cases Lee Z manages to come up with the goods. Particularly the ballads are fortuitous (for example, I specifically enjoyed listening to Cold Lake and Peaceful Lake). In addition, a pleasant change occurred while the album tread towards its end - the material began to be more experimental. Production-wise Shadowland is rather good... the sounds are both assertive and atmospheric, which isn't too easy a task to accomplish. Overall, Lee Z's new album is a good progmetal album that should gain the attention of progmetal enthusiastics around the globe. Go ahead, and give it a spin.
