I've got to admit that I was favourably surprised by the second album of Lost in Tears. Already from the start "To No Avail" stole my attention, and got me slightly hooked although the band isn't too original musically - their music is distinctly a blend of Katatonia, the 69 Eyes, and the like. Nevertheless, Lost in Tears' songs retain their somewhat engrossing characteristic quite easily for several listens. Death growls and clean vocals take turns while the dynamic guitar work leads the way for lethal rhythm section... all the ingredients for a great album are present, but somehow I get the impression of a half-measure attempt. In spite of all, I reckon these guys have potential of creating innovative compositions. The production has been carried out rather proficiently as the sounds on this record are fairly balanced. For the most part, the sonic impression of this album remains assertive. Overall, To No Avail is surprisingly good melancholic metal album. Be sure to give it a spin, if you're into this type of music. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (October 9th, 2005) « back
