Lion Music has signed a Spanish newcomer to the field of progressive metal, namely The Mystery Hall. Unlike some progressive metal bands, The Mystery Hall doesn't play for the sake of showing-off their skills... instead the band concentrates on composing music straight from the heart. The two most distinctive members of this band are the vocalist Rafael Morata and Tony Baena, latter being considered as a guitar hero). Musically this album is a blend of progressive and neo-classical metal with occasional hard rock influences mixed in as well. Clocking over an hour, "The Voyager Through the Void" seems to suffer from its length... although long albums are preferable, especially when progressive music is at issue, I reckon some of the material easily could have been left out from this record. That way the music would have made even greater impression to the listener. Nonetheless, this album is quite good with regard to music... production, on the other hand, is another matter. Production-wise this album leaves a lot to be desired... it's unfortunate that there's bothersome background distortion on almost every guitar section. Otherwise, the production isn't that "dead in the water". For example, the sounds are rather fitting (for the most part). TMH's debut album is one of those albums that you might like if you're a fan of the genre, but in the end you still wish it had been honed a bit more. In case you can't tolerate distorted recordings, you'd better skip this release. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (August 29th, 2005) « back
