Life of Agony finally returns after their long hiatus with an album titled as "Broken Valley". This is the band's fourth studio album, and the first one to be released by a major label. LoA has made a name for themselves in the 90's, so it will be interesting to see if they are able to regain their success after all these years... especially now that the boom of nu-metal has already normalized. Broken Valley doesn't offer many surprises, but instead relies on what's tried and tested - the music is fairly conventional blend of modern rock and metal. Naturally the strongest focus is on the chorus and the pre-chorus sections. Although some of the material on this album is rather good, several songs tend to sound a bit colourless and monotonous... I'd go as far as labeling them as 'fill'. The production on this album is pretty much what one can expect - big american sound that unfortunately comes at the expense of quality... there are slight clips and some background noise on few songs (for example, "No One Survives"). Nonetheless, other than that the recordings are rather good. In case you've waited for LoA to return, you should definitely check their new offering out. However, I recommend listening to bits of this album before buying, since "Broken Valley" contains fairly moderate songs amongst the better tunes.
