The story of Raintime reaches back to the summer of 1999, when the band was formed. However, their music was quite different back then - they played progressive metal in the vein of Dream Theater and the like, and their first demo "Jump in the Past" contained only instrumentals. After the foundation, the band has gone through few line-up changes and the keyboardist Claudio Coassin decided to grab the microphone. Therefore the music of today's Raintime is quite different from what was originally intended. Titled as "Tales from Sadness", Raintime's debut album offers a blend of melodic metal, melodic death metal with even a touch of industrial metal. Their blend works really well and distinguishes the band from other acts, although confluences to other bands can still be made. For example, traces of Evergrey, Dream Theater, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Fates Warning and Pain can be heard on this album. However, Raintime manages to sound . The material is nicely varying, and thus this album is a pleasure to listen to in the longer run as well. The production on this album is rather good, as the sounds are powerful yet atmospheric. Overall, this is really promising debut album, which hopefully attains all the visibility Raintime deserves. Definitely recommended to listeners of melodic metal who aren't put off by occasional death metal grunts. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (May 18th, 2005) « back
