Nebelkämpfe is the debut album of the German black metal band Taunusheim. The band was already formed in 1995, but due to other activities their debut album took rather long time to get finished. Naturally they have released few demos (three, to be exact) before recording their debut, and those demos have sold about 3000 copies.

The music on Nebelkämpfe is rather traditional black metal with some folk influences thrown in as well. Although the folk influences offer some variety to this record, there's still something missing... the songs aren't that memorable. Nonetheless, Nebelkämpfe has its moments, especially regarding the flute harmonies and folkish sections.

The production on this album is quite middling... sometimes the sounds are rather fitting, but some instruments could have sounded a lot better. For example, the guitar is rather cheap-sounding. In addition, the cymbals could have benefitted from better mixing every now and then. On the other hand, the sounds are rather atmospheric, which suits the record very well.

For a debut album, Taunusheim's Nebelkämpfe manages to deliver the goods quite sufficiently. Taunusheim is slightly more inventive than the average black metal band, and this proves to be their advantage. However, listening before buying is recommended.
