The Aerium is a new symphonic power metal band in the vein of Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica and the like. The Russian band doesn't have much new to offer to the genre, so I have to compare them to all the big names of symphonic metal. The Aerium's music isn't very original... Actually it seems like the Aerium has chosen the safe way by trying to walk on the coat-tails of Nightwish and others. If only their music would be as good as their models'. Nevertheless, there's something really positive about the Aerium. Their songs have few quite apposite hooklines that will stay in your head for quite a while. In addition, their singer, Veronika Sevostjanova, has quite interesting timbre in her voice. Production on this album has been done a bit "ho hum"... The vocals and keyboards have been mixed well, but other instruments could have sounded much better. Especially the drums need work mixing-wise. Mastering, on the other hand, has been done quite well. The production (especially the drums) give an impression of demo recording, although this really is an album. Despite the frailties of this debut album, the Aerium has potential. With stronger songs and better production this band would have better chance at success.
