Juan Carlos Coronado might well be one of the best guitarists you've never heard of... he was chosen as one of the Top Ten Guitar Heroes of 2005 by Guitar Player Magazine from over 3,000 submissions. Coronado played at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, in front of guitar legends such as Joe Satriani and Steve Lukather. In addition, The Durham Region Music Society awarded him with the "Best Instrumental Recording of the Year" award in 2005. Thus it isn't surprising that his album "Renewal" showcases how versatile a guitarist he just is. Coronado has great phrasing and sense of melody, and his record - though being fairly diverse with music ranging from ballads to fiery latin rock and even metal - manages to stay cohesive at all times. The song material on Renewal is pretty amazing, especially few songs make stronger impression on the listener than others. Primal Call has got Vai-influence all over it, while Flower Flight is perhaps the highlight of the record. It's a really beautiful ballad, which one could easily put on repeat and just enjoy the sheer emotion captured on that song. Besides playing all the instruments, Coronado also produced this record, and I must admit that he did quite well. Overall, Renewal is a timeless record that I recommend to all friends of guitar-oriented music. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (October 1st, 2006) « back Share
